A4ID Learning Courses

Advocates for International Development (A4ID) is a not-for-profit organisation that acts as a bridge between the Development and Legal sectors - connecting lawyers to development organisations since 2007. Inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), A4ID's ultimate vision is to see the law and lawyers play their full role in the eradication of global poverty. Its vast global network of legal partners provide technical expertise to development organisations so they can continue doing meaningful work.

Since its inception, A4ID has believed that an important part of its role is to offer learning resources and training courses for legal professionals to understand how they can play their part in global efforts to achieve the SDGs. 

Throughout the year, A4ID offer a range of paid and free legal short courses, in hybrid, in-person, and online formats. Through its partnerships, A4ID is able to offer expertise from legal and development sector specialists to a broad range of students.

The Law & Development Training Programme

Understand the intersection between the law and development in our six part hybrid course, the Law & Development Training Programme (LDTP).  Running from May - November 2023, this course will explore how lawyers can play their part in achieving the SDGs through the teachings of world-class experts in the legal and development field. Explore the SDG Legal Initiative Platform

A4ID's SDG Legal Initiative is a call to action to the global legal profession to work towards the achievement of the SDG Agenda. By sharing knowledge and providing opportunities to take practical action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity, A4ID will continue its work with the legal sector to enhance this impact. Business & Human Rights

A4ID in collaboration with the Danish Institute for Human Rights and with financial support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency has developed a four modules self-paced Business & Human Rights e-learning course for lawyers. The BHR e-learning course content has been developed and delivered by legal experts from various leading global law firms which include Morrison & Foerster, DLA Piper, Dechert, Allen & Overy and leading BHR and ESG experts from East Africa. The pilot phase of the BHR e-learning course run from January - December 2023 and focused on building the capacity of commercial lawyers and in-house counsels in Kenya to provide responsible business informed legal advice to businesses towards upholding their corporate responsibility to respect human rights. The next session/cohort of the BHR e-learning course will be published soon.
